
according to Aelfric there are three medieval estates Laboratories, Oratories and,Bellatores. "Laboratories are those who labor for our living; Oratories are those who plead for our peace with god; Bellatores are those who battle to protect our towns and defend our land against an invading army." in the general prologue of the Canterbury tales Chaucer explains the estate of the people in his story he says that none of them knew each other and that they all came together by chance in an inn, and they all banned together to make a pilgrimage for their religion. Chaucer then goes on to give you a brief background of each of the people traveling. he goes in to a brief detail about each person and how they live. there were 25 total people
Estate Satire is a genre which sarcastically attacks the abuses that occur within the three Estates that Aelfric mentions
