the story of Joseph and the bible

Although we didn’t have a class on “epic heroes” I think I can still explain how joseph is one. I learned in a class different from humanities that in order to be considered a hero you have to fallow the circle steps and although the circle mainly goes with writing books and stories it works with already made stories. adapted from Voglers the writers journey in order for a “hero” to become a hero they have to go through the cycle which is to state simply separation, decent, initiation, and then return in Josephs case his separation was when his brothers deceived him then his decent was when he was sent into the dungeons to rot for the rest of his life and once he proved his worth by interpreting the pharos dream he moved into the initiation stage and the return stage is when he is reunited with his family and he forgives them for their deceit.
Joseph is unique he is intelligent he has love and for no reason that he can understand his whole life is thrown into chaos and disarray and yet he still has hope and he still loves. Although Joseph has no ambition for success and power he somehow manages to gain a position of power and he does this by mainly just helping people he manages to wait out an entire famine just by planning for it and he saves hundreds of people which makes him a hero in the peoples eyes
As far as I can tell the differences between the KJV and the Koran is the language and the twist where josephs father knows that the brothers were the source of deceit towards Joseph much of the language is ye old English and it is probably meant to make the reader feel a little bit more religious I find little importance in the bland words it doesn’t appeal much to my human nature because it sounds fake unlike the king James version which is designed to appeal to the reader with its details and its story like writing.

  1. Thanks to the ref. to Vogler. Very astute. If you're interested have a look at Joseph Campbell's Hero of a Thousand Faces. Here's a link to one of many web pages.
